Online Lessons

ONLINE LESSONS

Online lessons are perfect those who've had prior one-on-one vocal training, those in remote areas or existing student who can't make it to their lesson in person or during Covid lock downs.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • A good internet connection

  • Computer or Laptop with a camera work best

  • Zoom application, it's free to download on any device https://zoom.us/

  • External Speakers (desirable but not necessary). These will give you better quality than the built-in speakers

  • A separate device to play backing tracks or YouTube videos

  • a quiet lesson space

HOW IT WORKS

  • Email dots.singing@gmail.com to schedule a lesson time, allowing 10 minutes for technical issues.

  • Those within Australia can pay via direct deposit. See Pricing

  • International students: Will be emailed an invoice via PayPal. From there you can log on to the PayPal site and make the payment.

  • Payment for international students needs to be completed within 48 hours to secure your booking.

  • Should we have a connection problem we can simply reschedule.

  • Dot will email a Zoom link or a Meeting id and Meeting password. Click on this link 5 minutes before your lesson is due and wait for Dot to admit you into the meeting/lesson.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The same as in-person lessons. See Pricing

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF ON-LINE LESSONS

  • Make sure you have a device able to support both video and audio at the same time.

  • Ensure your device is plugged in or running on full battery at the start.

  • Have headphone handy, in case we experience feedback or distortion.

  • Be ready and waiting 5 minutes before your lesson so you can get started straight away.

  • Instead of tilting the screen when you standing, just step back, so I can view your body.

  • Backing tracks need to be played from a phone or another device. If it’s not loud enough, put the phone in an empty ceramic coffee mug. It will amplify the sound.

  • Have a glass of water within reach.

  • Have your device at eye level or higher so you are not straining or bending your neck to be able to see the screen.

  • Have fun!

ZOOM AUDIO SETTING FOR SINGING or MUSIC:

1. Click the up arrow next to microphone, and click “ Audio settings” bottom, left of screen

2. Uncheck "Automatically adjust volume"

3. On the lower right of the window, click “ Advanced.”

4.

Tick or check "Show in-meeting option to 'Enable Original Sound' from Microphone"

Disable - "Suppress persistent background noise"

Disable - “Suppress intermittent background noise.

5.

In the top left corner of your screen, you';; see "Turn on original sound". Both the teacher and student should click this "on".

These filters are designed for talking, not music; the processors are confused by the sustained notes and overtones, which will cause distortions and glitches in the audio.

P.s. some student have mentioned that their screens look different. I'm using a PC so it may look different on Apple products.
